the ocean of melancholy
melancholy
feels something so very intimate
something
in between the shadow and the soul
something
in the depths of your heart
something
in the corners of your mind
something
creeping under your skin
flowing in your veins
and rooting in your eyes
it feels like your very own sea
a sea of melancholy
it is such a lonely sea

but give it some thought
and you realize
you are not so alone after all
lonely perhaps
but not alone
for melancholy is an ocean
think of
the infinite depths
of the ocean of melancholy
the endless currents
of loneliness
inexplicable sadness
the impossibility of happiness
and absurd longing for love
the roaring waves
of what-could-have-been
what-might-be
and what-never-was
the deep seabeds
of a haunting past
a tangled  present
and an obscure future
and the endless shades of blue
which bind together the body of the ocean;
all the things that break your heart
think of this all not as your personal sea
but as an universal ocean
in which we all swim
some of us rarely
some of us once in a while
and in which
some of us have drowned
and some have turned to mermaids of melancholy
think of it
and you will know
that you are not that alone after all
not alone
but lonely
stranded in your personal sea

  2. Oh! I am speechless... I must echo Minna and say I love this so, so much. It is exceptionally, beautifully true.
